Saturday:


Got t the gym this morning and got a really good sweat in, 45 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of sauna+ some pretty good company.  My weight was at 295 and I have my sights at being sub 290 hopefully before the new year.

Mini Goal number 1 has been reached:

Ok so my first real mini goal has been reached.  My weight is now consistantly under 300...granted it is in the 298 - 299 range...but I'll take it.  I am still working hard to keep this thing going and I am really watching what I eat over the last several weeks.  So for anyone who is keeping track at home.  The current total is 68 pounds loss which was 19% of what I weighed at the start.

My weight loss has slowed down...which i believe can be expected.  Over the last month I have gone down about 6 pounds so that means about 1.5 pounds per week on average.  Which means that if all goes according to plan I should reach 265 in a little over 5 months or somewhere in May 2011.  Which would be awesome since my original goal was to be at 265 in august 2011!

Sunday morning


Alright...so I was able to complete a 5k run yesterday in 35:45. I would have had a better time but I had to walk for a bit between the 2nd and 3rd mile. But I was able to finish strong.  Today my legs are feeling it and are pretty sore...I think I am going to try to do a 5k every Saturday morning at least for the next couple weeks.

5K

Tomorrow at 7:00 am will be a big step for me.  I am going to try to run a 5k.  My hope is to only stop running while i wait for traffic.  The course that I am running includes some pretty good hills so it should be a good test for me.  My end goal is going to be 30 minutes but I am hoping that I can at least beat 45 minutes.  I have been training hard on elliptical machines and the like but this will be the first time that I take my training to the somewhere other then the gym, let's see how this goes.

Monday Morning:

Got a good workout in this morning and on Saturday.  My average weight readings are between 300.5 and 302 which is down a couple from a week ago.  I am actually getting a twofer in tonight and I am getting to the gym a second time today.  I am also starting to plan for my 5K run.  I have a couple training routes planned that are 3.0 and 3.1 miles each respectively.  I am actively looking for race over thanksgiving but I don't plan on driving a long distance for one so I am looking for something that is more local to where I live.

Good start Thursday:


Got to the gym again today. That makes three times so far this week.  I am starting to get in the habit of going 5 times a week taking off Wed and Sun. So far it is working pretty well for me. The scale was extra nice to me as it read 301. I am really lookng forward to saying goodbye to the 300's, and when I do I do not plan on ever going back.

Not losing weight but getting in better condition.

So things are not moving as fast as they have in the past.  I have increased my conditioning over the last week and every time I go to the gym I get a good sweat going. But I am not seeing the weight come off like I have in the past. It is a little frustrating right now but I am taking it in stride. I am going to continue on my current path and if things do not change. I am going to look at altering my meals. Spreading my calories more evenly over all three meals and not being so top heavy with my evening meal.

Getting more work in:

I have followed my own advice from last Friday.  I am focusing on upping the intensity of my workouts on a daily basis. And so far it seems to be working, I can definitely feel it in my legs.  Here is to the hope that by pushing myself harder at the gym will jump start my losing weight again...I would really like to be under 300 by thanksgiving.

Friday: Need more work

So I was on the on the elliptical machine this morning and I came to a realization, I don't push myself hard enough. For the past several weeks I have been doing the following routine on the elliptical machine.  30 minutes, valleys at 5 incline and 1 resistance, peaks at 10 incline and 5 resistance averaging 160 steps per minutes.  This was going good for me for a long time. But recently it has not been enough for me to even break into a decent sweat.  So today I pushed the envelope some to see what would cause me to break into a good sweat.  What I found out is that I need a lot more them I am doing now to get a good sweat in.
My new routine will be 30 minutes, valleys at 10 incline and 10 resistance, peaks at 15 incline and 10 resistance averaging 140 steps per minute.  This got me going today and after getting done with the workout it felt really good, which is something I have not felt in a while after working out.

Tuesday:

Ok so I am back on the workout bandwagon.  I have gotten to the gym in each of the last two mornings and I am feeling pretty good about it.  Two straight days of 400 calories burned has to be good for you right?  I tell myself that.  Now to keep watching what I eat so I can continue on my journey!  I am really looking forward to finally being back in the 200's it has been a really long time since I have been at that weight range!

It has been killing me not knowing what my current weight is at.  I am eagerly anticipating my weigh in next Wednesday.  I have been watching what I have eaten and I have really cut back on my snacking.  I am extremely hopeful for a good weekend and some real progress.

To much worrying:

I am going to test my will power in a big way over the next week.  Starting today I am going to not weigh myself until next Wednesday morning.  I have gotten into the habit of weighing myself multiple times in one day and I need to stop that.  I have been floating in the 304 - 306 range for a good two weeks now and I need to jump start my weight loss again.  I am going to hopefully do this by paying more attention to what I am eating for dinner and then snacking on at night.  Hopefully this will get me going again and keep me on the path to 265.  I would really like to be under 300 by the end of October!

Two Straight Gym Days:

First the good.  I have gotten to the gym the last two days.  Now the bad.  I have gotten up extremely late so I have only gotten cardio work of 25 min each day.  But that is OK.  I am going to take the good and try to do better at the bad.  I bet my going to bed at 11:00 each night has something to do with not getting up until 5:30 each day.  If I can adjust my sleep schedule to be a little earlier then maybe I could get up a little earlier.  Here is to hoping.

Finally some new Progress:

So I have had some new progress as of late.  My weight has hit 303, which is a new low for me.  But not all is good, I need to get into a regimented routine for working out.  My drive to get there this week has been really lacking so I have only gotten there once.   I know I need to keep it up to keep the weight loss coming.

Tuesday Morning

Got to the gym last night and did a weigh in this morning.  The scale read 305.3...which is close enough to 305 for me.  I am happy with the progress that I have made over the last year and 1 month.  So far it has been a total of 62 pounds, and over the last 3 months it has been 30 pounds.  But lately things have been a little stagnate I have been floating at the 306 mark for the last couple of weeks (2).  And I am looking to get back on track.  Thanks to everyone who has been supporting me through this journey...

Thursday:

Got to the gym, not this  morning but this evening.  Got a really good sweat in and burned 400 calories.  Had a really good dinner as well tonight.  Had a footlong subway oven roasted chicken sandwich and some baked lays. The sub was chicken and veggies only...no mayo or cheese.  It a amazes me that a sub with no cheese or mayo can have so much flavor.

Saturday - Tuesday:

Man I hate being sick.  I have a head cold that I have not been able to shake over the last couple days.  I have not been feeling the best since Saturday.  Luckily today I am beginning to feel like myself again. Still have a stuffy nose but at least the rest of my body doesn't ache anymore.
I have not gotten to the gym since Saturday and I am hopeful that I will get back to my workout ways tomorrow.  But all is not lost  I have not gained any weight during this sick time, which I assume is expected, but I am still a little surprised since my caloric intake has been higher these last few days. Anyway here's to getting better and back on the wagon!

Thursday and Friday:

Ok so I got to the gym on Thursday and the scaled read 306.5 which is good...It means i am making some progress.  But recently I have been floating anywhere around 305 to 308.  Today I woke up with a sore throat and generally feeling pretty terrible, so no gym for me.  I figured on getting sick today since I took care of my son yesterday and he wanted Dad to hold him...how could I say no to that...long story short...I didn't. Now I am paying for the opportunity to spend a day with my sick son.

Crazy scales:

So I got on the scale today and I was shocked to see my weight at 308. (Actually just a shade under but that is besides the point!)  On Saturday the scale read 305.5 which meant that I gained 2.5 pounds in less the 3 days.  I am chalking it up to "meh" it isn't really a big deal anyway.  The more important item is that I got to the gym today and got a really good sweat in.  That usually happens when I don't like what I see on the scale.  Maybe I should weigh in with extra weight in my pocket so I can keep that motivation going :-)

5K

Started training for a 5 K today.  Now I doubt it will be running or jogging a 5k but it was doing 3.05 miles in 46 minutes.  I wasn't all that long ago that 3.05 miles would have not been obtainable.  Felt good to do a walk and then have plenty of energy left after we were finished.

Another 10 is gone.

Weighed in this morning at the gym and the number that showed on the scale was 307. So that means my total weight loss has gone to 60 pounds and I only have 42 more pounds to go. If I continue at my current pace of 1.62 pounds per week on average...I will meet this goal by March 11th 2011.  Which is actually vastly ahead of my goal of August 24th 2011.  I realize that I won't keep this same pace up for the entire time...but that is not going to stop me from trying.

Good and Bad:

First the Bad news...I could not get myself out of bed this morning.  So I did not get to the gym like I anticipated.
Now the good news.  My weight was at 308.5, call it 309 to be safe.  Which means that I am continuing my downward tread to 300 and closing the gap ever so slightly on 265.

Jeopardy Knowledge:

1 pound of fat = 3,500 calories.  So if you have a 500 calorie deficit per day you would lose a pound a week.
In the last year I have lost 57 pounds which means that is 199,500 calories that I have given up, which is approximately the equivalent of eating 1 Big Mac per day for 1 year.

On a side note I got to the gym this morning...30 minutes of cardio and 448 calories burned and feeling good!

Backing down to bi-weekly weigh-ins

Got to the gym this morning, but did not get as long of a workout in as I previously anticipated.  I really need to get my butt out of bed when my alarm goes off.  I didn't stroll into the gym until 5:30 and that left me only 20 minutes for my workout.  But I made the most of my 20 minutes and burned 320 calories.
I am also going to back-off my basically daily weigh-ins...I am going to go to a two a week system.
Mondays and Fridays.  To see how my week went and then to see how the weekend affected me.  We'll see how this change goes.

A Good Weekend and Typical Monday:

I had a really good weekend, got to the gym on Saturday and weighed in at 310.  My weight was confirmed again this morning at the gym...So now I am only 10 pounds away from the elusive 300...it has been over 10 years since I have sniffed that number. And I know it will be great once I leave it in my dust.  It is funny that the closer you get to your goal the more motivated you are to achieve it, at least for me.  I am really looking forward to being in the 200's again.

Friday Workout:

Got a workout in today...30 minutes on the elliptical machine and I it felt really good.  430 calories burned  and the scale was good to me as well...Just a shade under 312 this morning and about an even 311 in the afternoon.  Now to get a good workout in this weekend...maybe someone will want to meet me at the gym on Saturday at 8:00 am?

Day Off Thursday: Calorie Update

So for this new year I have decided to change the way that I am counting calories.  I am not changing the program that I currently use. (www.hotcal.com)  But I am changing what it says about my daily allowance of calories.  For the past 3 months I have been trying to lose 3 pounds per week, and I have been pretty successful at doing it.  Since Jun 11th I have lost 26 pounds which is about 2.6 pounds per week.  So I am a big believer in the calorie counting system.  Sure it can be a pain at first, but once you incorporate it into your day it really is not a big deal.  Lately my Calories have been hovering around 2700 per day.  With my new plan of losing 2 pounds per week my calories are at 3200 calories per day. So hopefully I continue at the same pace and lose around 1.7 pounds a week which will place me at my goal in 28 weeks which will at the end of march 2011.  I don't expect it to go totally smooth which is why my realistic goal is in August...but it would be really nice to wrap this up in March.

1 Year Anniversary:

Ok so today is my 1 year anniversary +1 day (I forgot it was actually yesterday) for my weight loss plan.  So far I have been able to lose 54.5 pounds.  It seems like yesterday that I weighed 367 but today I weighed 312.5.  I did not necessary reach my 1 year goal of losing 67 pounds but I find it hard to complain when I lose +50 pounds.  So now to update my goal for the next year.  I want to complete what I started in August of 2009and  I want to get to 265 by August 24, 2011.  So my weight loss goal for the next year is 47.5 pounds or a shade under a pound a week (.9113).   Thanks to everyone who has supported me so far and for your continued support as I travel on my journey.

Wednesday: early morning edition

I'm back, I'm back in the saddle again! Got to the gym this morning and man did it feel good. It is going to be a little adjustment vetting up at 5 but that is ok. 450 calories burned and I am ready to start my day.

Lazy Tuesday:

Ok so I officially need a slap on the hand.  I did not get to the gym today.  I was up late last night trying to figure out why my router was not forwarding ports to my PS3 only to see at 1:00 am (5:00 am came really quickly, and I snoozed until 6:00 and missed my workout time) that it most likely is not my router but my modem.   So now I have something else to tinker with tonight.  There is my excuse...now to get to the gym tomorrow.  The only good thing to come of this is that I stayed within my calorie count these last two days so not getting to the gym should not hurt me.

Saturday extra

Got an extra work in today. Jim and I decided to do a circuit of weight machines. My entire body is feeling it right now. But it is a good feeling. I am looking forward to one of my favorite dinners tonight, taco chili. The scale was good to me this morning, 313 and falling. Life is good right now.

Friday Afternoon workout:

I am going to be getting to the gym this afternoon.  I didn't feel up to going this morning but I am able to get out of work a little bit early so I am going to utilize that time at the gym.  I am also really looking forward to working out with a good friend on Saturday and potentially enjoying some really good coffee as well.  My weight has been hovering around the 314 mark this week and is actually up a shade...but I don't think it is anything to worry about...I am just used to seeing progression each week that it is difficult to not see progression all the time.

I am enjoying another Thursday day off from the gym.  Tomorrow it will be back to the grind, and then I plan on getting an extra workout in on Saturday.  Except on Saturday I will add a Sauna which is especially rewarding after a long week. Everyone should enjoy the experience of sitting in a small excessively hot room, sweating.

Wednesday: Tuesday officially made up for.

I got to the gym this morning and officially made up for my laziness on Tuesday. 30 Minutes of hard cardio and 500 calories burned.  Weight is actually holding slightly over 314 which isn't all that uncommon for me to vary up to 2 pounds. I have actually started to get use to eating a lighter breakfast. 1 cup of cereal, usually cheerios or capt'n crunch and 3/4 cup of 2% milk.  Usually my breakfast weighs in at 225 to 275 calories.  And my lunches are holding steady in the 500 - 625 range.  It is definitely good to see that a standard process can pay dividends when you follow it.

Monday Morning:

I only have 8 days until my 1 year anniversary of this weight loss journey.  so far in 357 days I have shed 53 lbs.  I am really going to try to make that number an even 60 but I am going to be very happy with whatever the number actually comes out at!  53 lbs = 15.53% of my total body weight since the beginning of this journey!
I was feeling a little run down this morning.  Not sure if going away for the weekend finally caught up to me or not.  But I only did 20 Minutes of Cardio today.  Still 300 calories burned is better then 0 calories burned.  The scale at the gym confirmed what the Wii told me last night. I was under 314. This morning I was closer to 313 then 314 but for now I am going to count it as 314.

A rare sunday posting to my blog!  I weighed in on the Wii this morning and it registered at 314! Which means that I went down 2 pounds this weekend!  I even did the weigh in twice on the Wii cause I didn't believe it the first time.  Now i'll wait until tomorrow to see what the gym says.

Thursday Off:

I usually take Thursday off from the gym. My weekly routine usually calls for this so I can give my body a little time to recuperate.  Then it will be back to the grind both Friday and Saturday and off again on Sunday.  Which usually means 5 days on and two off with my workouts, so far so good.

Wednesday:

Dinner was really good last night...but was not especially good for me :-)  Appetizer, Entree and Dessert, the total meal was in excess of 2,000 calories.  But it has been a long time since I have had a meal like that.  So I am chalking it up to a wonderful night with my wife!  This morning though it was back to reality.  Gym in the morning and carefully planned breakfast and lunch followed.  It is almost getting to the point that I can do this routine in my sleep...not sure if that is good or bad.  I am considering it good since i am still making strides in the right direction.

Forgot to blog during my lunch today. But I got to the gym this morning and was treated with a sub 316 weigh in. Now it was barely under but under is under! But tonight I am celebrating my wifes and I 7th anniversary, so I am not to concerned about what I am going to eat. But since I was good for breakfast and lunch I have some calories to use for dinner.

Back on the Train: Monday Morning

This weekend was good to me and so far my mini goal of 315 by Friday seems to be very much in reach!
My weight this morning was at 316, which is ahead of my current schedule of 315 by Friday.  I plan on continuing my routine of working out in the morning and watching what I eat throughout the day and I will see where I can get to by Friday morning.  It would be very good to beat 315 by a pound or two.  And on a side note, with my weight at 316 this morning it means that I have officially crossed the 50lb barrier.

Saturday afternoon.

Got an extra workout in today and it felt pretty good.  400 calories burned and I still have my evening to look forward to. The gym said I was a shade under 318 and the Wii said I was a said under 319.  So we'll say I am somewhere inbetween.  I am hoping to be under 315 by next Friday.   I am really concentrating on what I put in my body this weekend and I am going to do the same thing next week in hopes to meet this short term goal.

Friday Morning:

I have a bit of a snag in my weight loss journey.  I have not loss any weight for about a week.   Now granted that 5 days of the week was vacation. And I didn't do my very best to watch what I ate...Hey it was vacation after all.  But the good news is that I am back on the train after that 5 day stop.  Got to the gym this morning and got a 500+ calorie burn in.  My breakfast and Lunch added up to 850 calories which leaves me with enough room for a 2400 calorie dinner.  Which I do not plan on being 1/2 larger then what is left...so about 1200 calories...which should keep me going in the right direction.

Thursday after vacation:

Got up this morning and weighed in, thankfully I did not see any difference in my weight.  I did not go down in weight but more importantly I did not go up in weight.  3 days at the beach eating really rich foods has done no damage, I am sure it helped that two of the three days I was able to jog in the morning and then 2 about 2 hours of boogie boarding in the afternoon.  But I did make careful decisions on what I decided to eat.
Now it is back to the real world.  I took today off from the gym so I could recuperate from vacation. But I plan on starting up my workouts again tomorrow and Saturday.   Now my very short term goal is to lose 8 pounds by August 24th.  If I can do this then I would be 310  and would have a weight loss of 57 lbs in 1 year.

Tuesday Morning at the beach:

Got another 2.5 mile jog/walk into day.  My routine that I developed yesterday is to jog 2 blocks and then walk one block and rinse and repeat.  It worked out pretty well. By the time I am done with my routine I am totally drenched with sweat.  Yesterday was a good day at the beach.  I boogie boarded for about 2 hours, which burned almost 600 calories along with the 500 calories from my morning exercise.  We also walked a good bit, but I am just counting that as extra.  With my exercise being counted I am staying within my calories by 100 - 200 or so.  I will be curious to see what my weight is when I get back to the gym on Thursday.  I am hoping to have loss no ground.  If I weigh in at 318 I will be a happy man.

Morning at the beach:

I am jogging.  The sun is rising slowly behind me.  I reach the main gates of the Ocean City Boardwalk. I turn to make my return trip back to the hotel.  And up comes on my MP3 player? Chariots of Fire, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-7Vu7cqB20) while I am running towards the rising sun on the beach!  If there ever was a time that God spoke to me telling me I am doing the right thing(s) in my life this was it.  It was an experience that everyone should have, running on the beach listening to chariots of fire, spending some time thanking God for what he has given you.

Friday: Almost Vacation

Got to the gym this morning, it is always good to start out your morning with a nice workout. I have a very important decision to make today (well at least this weekend).  Am I going to continue to exercise during my 3 day vacation or am I going to take a break from it, and on a side note I also have to choose if I am going to blog and count calories during this time as well.  As of now I am believe that I am going to count calories and blog.  It will be a test for me to see how I can handle vacation.  My weight was still at 318 this morning.  Here is tot the hope that I am below 316 by next Thursday!

It's not always about me:

Todays post is not going to be about my journey. It is going to be mostly about my good friend Jim who is doing this weight loss journey with me. Jim started his journey much lighter then me, in the  320's, and last night at his routine weigh-in the scale read 280. Which means that he is down roughly 40 - 45 lbs. Which is just as impressive as me in every way and might be even more impressive then me since he is a couple years my senior. And from what I hear it is harder to lose weight the older that you get.  So this is a little post from me to him saying that I am proud of the work that he has accomplished and I am looking forward to continuing our journey together and I am excited to see what is in store for us both!

BTW - my weight was at 318 today. And I took the day off since I got to the gym twice yesterday:

Curse you Fair!

Ok...so maybe my title to my blog post is a little misleading.  I curse the fair for having so many great foods that are so darn bad for me!  Our little fair from what I know is known for Big Boys.  It is around 12 inches of hamburger goodness!  Two hamburger patties, Lettuce, tomatoes, Onions, American Cheese, and Mayo(which is asked them to hold).  Man is it ever good! From my calculations the sandwich was around 832 calories. I also shared a French Fries order with my son, but I have to admit it was probably 70-30 split, that was 260 calories. So Dinner was 1,092 calories.  But I am not done.  I also had a funnel cake, that was 300 calories of fried goodness!  Man the fair is bad for you, but it sure tastes good.  Lucky I got to the gym today and yesterday. And even through my birthday weekend and the fair on Monday my weight is down to 319 which is good.

Typical Tuesday:

Got to the gym this morning and it felt pretty good.  30 Minutes of cardio and I was ready to start my day.  I am beginning to look forward for fall so that I can have my evenings back and to be able to take Jax outside again.  Recently it has been to hot to play outside, and by the time it cools down...there are all sort of buggers outside that like to bite.  My weight was hovering just under 320 this morning.  I was able to go down another notch on the scale...so that I don't have to set the big weight to 320 but now I can do it to 300.  That is a pretty good feeling!

The Day After:

Sunday was a celebration of my Birthday through Food.  I was able to select where to eat for lunch and what the Menu was going to be for Dinner.  Red Robin was my choice for lunch, The natural grilled chicken sandwich with melon strips was my meal.  I did splurge on 2 onion rings from our appetizer. Lunch only weighed in at 750 calories which wasn't to bad.  Dinner on the other hand was slightly worse.  Grandma made her own version of chicken-fried steak with Mash Potatoes and Peas.  With a side shot of Lemon Cream Cake for Dessert.  Dinner was a lot worse then lunch at 1750 calories!  But I expected as much.  And My Breakfast was a usual one at 360.  So all in all I was only over my daily limit by 50 calories.  Which is not to bad for really going overboard on my supper...but hey you only turn 30 once.

Today is big 3-0, to celebrate my wife is sending me on a golf outing. It is supposed to be near 100 so I will bet o am going to burn some calories! Today even started out well when wii fit said i was down to 320.5

Thursday:

Thursday morning and I really had to drag myself to the gym this morning.  I didn't want to go, but I forced myself to go!  And I do feel better for it.  30 minutes on the elliptical machine and 430 calories later I was ready to start my day!  The elliptical machine I use daily has several options that you can input, besides the typical what type of work out and how long of a workout.  It has the ability for you to place your weight and age into the machine.  I assume I would do this so the machine can more accurately predict the number of calories that I am burning.  And for the last several weeks of doing this routine the only variable has been my weight.  My age has stayed the same...until this morning.  Even though my "Birthday" is not until this weekend, I realize that I am a whole lot closer to 30 then 29 so I decided to take the plunge and change my age on the elliptical...Oh well, 30 is just a number right?

Wednesday:

Another day down, another day in the gym.  Saw some more progress with my weight, it was down to 321.  I have been hitting my 3 pound goal for the last 4 weeks.  I am not expecting anything to change over the next several weeks.  The reason I believe this is because my calorie tracker automatically adjusts my calories according to my current weight. So the more weight I lose the lower my basic calorie needs goes.  So it is up to me to adjust my life style so that I do not exceed my calorie limits.  So far so good!

Monday = Pain:

Woke up with some lower back pain this morning.  I went to the gym and tried to give it a go, the discomfort was not crippling but it was enough to make me decide to sit out today and give it another try tomorrow morning. My hope is that my back feels better by then.  So I am especially going to watch what I eat today!

Friday Afternoon:

Gonna get to the gym this afternoon.  I didn't get there this morning so I am jetting from work a little early and then getting a good run in before I settle home for the weekend.  Neato Burrito ended up not being as bad for me as I would have thought.  It probably helped that I chose to pass on the cheese. The burrito ended up being around 600 calories itself and I only had water to drink...so not a shabby lunch in general.
My wife is buying me size 40 jeans at Old Navy.  So there is a goal for me to achieve this fall. Currently I am in a 42 size jean now. Here is to process.

Workout Thursday:

Got a really good workout in this morning.  480 Calories later and I didn't even realize that my 30 minutes was up on the elliptical. The scale was nice to me as well...323 that is down 15 pounds since June 11th.  Now I get to ruin everything tomorrow when my brother and I go to Neato Burrito.  They are famous for 1 lb burritos.  I don't want to even think how many calories are in it.  But dang is it ever good!  I'll adjust my other meals so that lunch doesn't hurt to much and I 'll make sure I get to the gym in the morning.

No Gym today...I decided to take a day of rest since I have gotten to the gym 5 times in the last 6 days.  I will get back to it tomorrow morning.  I believe that I am finally getting used to this Calorie Tracking thing I have going here.  As of now I have consumed a total of 958 calories and I have 1903 left to go.  I am hoping that this process continues to go this smoothly.  Progress is a nice thing to experience.

Tuesday Morning:

Dragged myself to the gym this morning.  I didn't want to go but I forced myself to go.  I stepped on the scale and was happy do see another pound drop off and my weight register at 324.  Another pound closer to my goal.  I felt especially good after my elliptical session, 440 calories burnt in the early morning. A good way to start your day!

Got to the gym this morning and get a pretty good elliptical session in.  400 Calories later I am starting my work week.  Here is to the hope that I have another good week and get another 2-3 pounds of progression.  I am hoping to be under 320 by birthday. That would be a pretty nice birthday present to my self.  Then I would have 4 weeks to lose an additional 10-12  pounds to get 1 year goal of 60 pounds lost in a year.

Got to the gym this morning and I got a good sweat in. 489 calories later I am feeling pretty good right now. Calorie counting has gone pretty good as well.  I am finding this to be a challenge every day and I am determined to keep at it and to succeed.  And so far so good.  I just want to see more progress as the weeks go on.

Tuesday: Back from a long weekend!

Usually long weekends are bad for me and my diet(s).  Especially when I am attending two backyard cookouts with excellent food!  But this weekend was different for me.  I was able to stay under my caloric intake recommendation on all 3 days! The closest I came to not making it was Saturday but some good gym time was all it took to swing me back into the positive direction.
It has been 3 weeks since I have began counting my calories on a daily basis and during that time I have lost 10 pounds!  Which means that I am maintaining my 3 pounds per week. If I can keep this up for the rest of the summer it would mean that my weight would be at 306 by August 24th.  Which would place me at 61 pounds in 1 year.  That is my new summer goal 306 by August 24th. Stay tuned for more results!

Friday Afternoon:

Got to the gym Friday afternoon.  The wife and son were away so I thought I take advantage of the time to get a good workout in.  The scale at the gym says my weight is at 327 but Wii fit says I am still to large to use it.  I am hoping by the end of next week that Wii fit will approve of me ;-) But I am feeling really good with how calorie counting is going.  It is really gratifying to see results every week.

GymTime!

It is amazing how the beginning of a run stinks but when you get 10 - 15 minutes into the run...it gets much better, I am not sure how else to describe it.  I am feeling really good right now. Got another 30 minutes in this morning and blew through another 500 calories.  I am averaging around 2.25 per run, and on an added note I am down under 330...I know we will have some variance here and there...but I am hoping to be at 327 by Friday.

Sunday Night:

Ok so Saturday was bad but Sunday was good.  I was over my calorie limit by 300 calories on Saturday but I was under my limit by 1500 on Sunday. Which makes this weekend really good.  I am hoping to have lost some weight and to get under the mysterious 330 mark and to stay under it consistently.  Now to drag my butt out of bed tomorrow morning and get to the gym!  I did get to the gym on Saturday and I even played some b-ball today...So I am feeling pretty good right now!

Friday Morning: After the Gym

Ok...I got a good workout in at the gym this morning.  And I did feel better once I got onto the elyptical machine.  500 calories later and it is time to start my day.  My goal for this weekend like every other weekend is to not blow my diet.  Which is much easier to do on a weekend day then a standard weekday.

Wednesday:

Got a little bit lighter workout in today.  Only 400 calories instead of my usual 500 but that is ok.  My meal plan has been working as expected and I am feeling like I might be able to keep up this 3 pounds per week goal I have right now.  If I can keep this up for the summer it would mean that I would lose around 30 pounds in 3 months.  Which would actually be right around my 1 year Anniversary for my diet plan.  So if I can actually pull this off it would mean that I have lost 67 pounds in 1 year.  And I would be happy if I can get to 50 pounds which would be place me at 317 but I would be really happy at sub 300. It has been a long time since I have been in the 200's...

Late Tuesday Post:

Here is to a late Tuesday Post. So far the calorie counting is going pretty good.  I know that the numbers are not completely right.  I am sure they are off some calories + or -...But the point is still valid that it is making me think more about my serving sizes and what I am snacking on.
My workouts are also going good.  I feel good about what I am doing now and I am actually looking forward to being able to do Wii Fit with my Wife.

Back to Monday:

Yeah for the little things:  My trip back to Ohio went well on two fronts: 1) It is always great to see family! 2) I lost weight over the weekend.  Now a day of walking and pushing a stroller at the Cleveland Zoo helps and a couple hours of active swimming also helps.  I am almost at the magical 330 mark which will allow me to do some wii fit!  I am hoping to be doing it by Monday next week!

3 Straight good days:

So this marks 3 straight days of good gym work.  When I hoped on the Elyptical Machine this morning my legs were not feeling the best. So I cut my cardio down to 15 minutes and then did several types of upper body exercises.  I am feeling it pretty good today but overall I feel really good.  I am actually liking being able to go to the gym at 5:45 instead of 5:15  that extra 1/2 an hour makes alot of difference.

Two Straight Good Days:

Well this marks two straight days that have gone pretty good from a workout and eating standpoint.  My weight this morning was 334.  Which is down 6 pounds from when I started the calorie counting...which is really good.  I have had two straight days of good cardio in the morning. 30 minutes of hard elyptical work and it feels good.
Now to keep it going for the summer!

Monday Morning:

Monday started out well today: I was able to get to the gym this morning and at 6:10 no less.  Not getting up as early as before is pretty nice.  35 Minutes on the elyptical Machine and 500 calories later I was done with my workout for the day.  hotcal.com seems to be working out pretty well too.  Everything I eat is not necessarilly in their database but i can usually find something similiar.  The website says i need 4400 calories a say to stay at my current weight and 2900 calories a day to lose 3 pounds a week. I know that losing 3 pounds per week is pushing it, and that is intentional.  But I will take a good start. We'll see how this week goes.

Re-Booting my Diet:

I have not been posting regularly to my blog about my diet journey.  Mostly because I have been struggling with how to keep myself motivated and keep the weight coming off.  I have decided to change tactics.  I am going to start using the site call HotCal  that will help me keep track of the calories that I consume and the calories that I burn in a given day/week.  My hope is that this will keep me more motivated and going to they gym and eating right.

I am very Frustrated with myself:

So as the title of my post says...i am very frustrated with myself.  I have not been doing cadio as much as I should and i have not been eating the way i should.  Hence i have gained 6 pounds in the last 3 weeks.  I am not sure what is going on. but i need to do a gut check and get back on the bandwagon.

Grrr to myself since I only have myself to blame.

Another week

I got to the gym 4 times last week and from what I can see I drop 2 pounds. I started out the week at 333 and I weighed in at 331 today. I am not concerning myself with my weight though. I am more concerned with consistantly getting to the gym. And I will take 4-5 days on a given week. Here is to another week at the gym and hopefully anther 2 pounds off. That would be nice.

I was a little sore this morning so instead of not going at all i decided to go lightly and still get a run in.  20 minutes later i had a decent sweat going and i felt good for still getting to the gym...tomorrow will be a regular cardio day...So far i have been able to get to the gym by at least 5:10 and then get back home by at least 5:45.  I am hoping that this continues over the next several weeks.

EARLY Monday Morning:

And yes i do mean early. I did what I said I was going to do on Friday and I got to the gym at 5:00 am this morning. Surprisingly there were a bunch of people there with me. 30 minutes of cardio and 450 calories later I was on my way home. Thankfully both my wife and son were still sleeping soundly...I was able to get into the shower and dressed before either of them stirred. Maybe this will actually work? I certainly hope so. It will be nice to go home tonight knowing that my workout has already been completed.

I also have a new short term goal. 320 before May 12th. That will be a 10 pound weight loss in one month. I am excited to see if i can do it.

Thankfullly Friday:

It is Friday and my quest to get up in the morning and go to the gym has not gone as expected.  My son has caught the plague and subsequently given it to me.  And i am just feeling better today.  I am planning on getting to the gym tomorrow morning and then starting my 5:00 am regime on Monday morning.  This way I can continue to lose weight and hopefully get to 300 by august.

I really need to do two things, get my butt in bed at a more reasonable time every night...and then get my butt out of bed at 5am and then immediately proceed to the gym for morning cardio.  Right now i am not really doing either and I need to stop that.  My weight has stayed really consistant over the last 3 - 4 weeks.  I am not losing weight but how could I since i am not getting to the gym regularly.  But I will take a small credence that i have kept weight off and not put anything back on even with my lack of working out.


So Tomorrow is a new start to the 30 day challenge that I placed on myself on my very first post.  Derek this is yourself writing your blog...get to the gym tomorrow morning at 5am....Or Else.

Thursday:

Down a couple pounds from Monday which is good...but i was up a couple on Monday from the weekend which was not so good...I got a good sweat in with my pal and we didn't even workout, saunas are a wonderful thing.  I also took some of his advise and got a footlong chicken sub with nothing on it except veggies and oil and vinegar!  I was impressed that i didn't miss the cheese or the mayo and the sub had plenty of flavor!

Got to the gym twice over the weekend...Friday night and Sunday afternoon.  I am happy to report that my weight was at 329 on Sunday which is at least in the right direction for now.  I have stopped my hunt for a Gym and I am going to stick with what i have...under the preface that a gym is better then no gym...which is entirely true!

Still Gym Hunting:

I am still hunting for a gym and i am slightly annoyed that I cannot find any alternatives to my current gym within a 15 mile radius.  After going to see PlanetFitness it is going to be hard to go back to my current gym even if i am forced to.  It is just night and day difference...a good comparison would be trading in a Ugo for a Ferrari. And then having to go back to the Ugo...that isn't much fun.

Gym Hunting:

Tonight I go gym hunting.  I decided to not renew my gym membership at my current gym.  44.50 seems like an awful lot to pay to only run on a cardio machine and do some lifting.  So i began looking around and i think i found a fit at planetfitness.  They have plans that are 10 bucks per month and only 39 bucks up front. So for the first month i pay more...(49 bucks) but after that i pay less, 25.50 less....it seems like a good idea to me.
Not all of it is positive though.  I won't be able to workout with my good friend and i will miss that dearly.  I hope that one day we get a planet fitness in our home town...that would be great.

P.S. Planet fitness has no commitments so if something opens up that is better I am free to jump on that if I want to.

Man I have been lazy with my posts.  I did get to the gym this week...Tuesday actually.  And i am expecting to get back there again either tonight or Saturday morning.  We have been pretty busy at work these days...which is a good thing...but i still need to stay committed to my blog.  I still am sitting around 330 but I think I am about to begin my downward trend again.
My gym membership is up at the end of the month...I might look for other options that are available since the gym is $45.00 plus a month.  So I am going to see if there is cheaper option available.

Tonight is workout Tuesday, I have a church meeting at 7:00 but hopefully this does not go to long and i am able to get to the gym afterwards.  I really need to get a good sweat in and the gym is a really good place to do it.

The end of Valentines Day:

Valentines Day is over and i believe i am none the worse for it.  We went out for a special dinner and had a blast.  the good news is that i was able to get to the gym on Sunday and get a good workout in.  So the weekend shouldn't hurt me to much.  My weight on Saturday was a shade over 328 so i am hoping that this is the beginning of my continual weight loss.  I have lost 39 pounds so far and i am hoping for 40 real soon.

So the blizzard of 2010 is officially over and it is now back to normal life.  I am going to get to the gym tonight and get a really good sweat in.  I am looking forward for warmer weather so that i can enjoy the outside with my son.  But that isn't going to happen any day soon since we have 3 feet of snow in our yard.

Superbowl weekend:

This weekend was pretty good. We got around 18 - 20 inches of snow so shoveling was my workout on Saturday, I got to the gym on Sunday and got a good workout in 30 minutes of sweat.  I also weighed my self and i tipped the scales at just under 330...but my weight is still fluxuating between 329 and 332...but for now i am happy with 37 pounds.  I still need to watch my weekends and my dinner proportions but everything so far is gong pretty good.

Get to the Gym, Derek!

Tonight, I am going to try my best to get to the gym. I need to get some cardio in so that i can continue my downward spiral of weight loss.  I redid my daily caloric needs and it tells me for continued weight loss i need 2788 calories per day.  500 for breakfast, 500 for lunch, and 1788 for dinner.  I am going to try to match that more closely then i have been.  I fear that my metabolism is shutting down a little bit and that I need more calories daily to keep my body burning calories.  Breakfasts will be the traditional bowl of cereal...that will come close to 500 calories as i can. Lunch will continue to be my soup routine with accessories, which should clock in at 400 calories and a snack mid afternoon around 60 calories. (I have been neglecting this snack) Dinner...will continue to be whatever is on the Bostick Diner Menu.

Good weekend:

I had a pretty good weekend.  I got to the gym on Saturday and worked out really good. When i weighed in i was at an even 330 which is down another 2 pounds from my unexpected gain of a couple nights ago.  Now i need to stay more consistent in my workout and to keep my eating habits more streamlined as well.

Tonight is back to the grind of getting to the gym and getting a good sweat in, after a day like today...i am going to need to get some frustration out on the cardio machine.  I think I am also going to start lifting lightly...not heavy weights or anything that will bulk muscle mass but high reps more for toning then anything.

Back to normal life:

I am feeling better today so I am hoping that my whole sickness is behind me.  I should be getting back to the gym tomorrow and then continuing on Thursday and Saturday.  The weekend was good...I fit into a 2x shirt for my Son's birthday party and that felt pretty good.

Family Bug:

An instance of the family bug/flu kept me from getting to the gym last night.  I am hoping that we are all feeling better tonight so i can get to the gym.  But if i cannot that is ok because family comes first. I weighed myself at work at it seems i 329-330 but i am in full dress so it might be a little off, the scale jumped between 334 and 335, and i have a sweat shirt, t-shirt, jeans and shoes on, so i am giving it 4-5 pounds.  I have decided to stick with soups for now and mix it up later in the year...when it gets warmer out and soups aren't fun anymore.

Quickie:

Man is it busy at work these days...didn't even have time to blog properly today.  I am getting to the gym tonight but probably after my son goes to bed...I am so close to being able to play Wii fit I can almost taste it.  I am hoping to be there before the end of the month!  Tune in tomorrow to see what my weight is at.

Tuesday:

So I know I should get to the gym tonight and I am still hopeful that i will be able to get there.  But I know that we have some stuff to do around the house tonight and we have to get groceries. I am thinking of changing up my lunch routine.  It is not that I am tired of soups and such...but i am feeling like i should switch it up before i do become tired of it.  I want to stay within the 500 calorie range for my lunches, but that makes it difficult.  I am not the biggest fan of sandwiches unless you put mayo on them...but i am not gonna do that.  So here I am thinking of what can I do that is in the 500 calorie range but is simple to put together and will stay consistently the same calorie wise.

No need to workout today:

Since I got to the gym both Sunday and Saturday...I am not planning on going to the gym tonight.  But I do plan on getting some healthy play time with my son.  I heard on the radio about a weight loss contest for Wink104 and I decided to throw my hat in the ring...I know there is a horribly small chance of my getting selected to participate...but if they would choose me then who knows what it could lead to.  If you are interested in seeing the link it is right here-> http://www.wink104.com/ (it is the top link on their page, Lose to Win; Weight Loss Challenge)

My weight on Saturday was 330 so that means i am down another 2 pounds and I am quickly approaching the 320s... :-)

Good Saturday

Today was a good day. I got to the gym today and was treated to some great news. My weight was at 330 which is down another 2 pounds. I also was able to get 30 good minutes of cardio in. The cherry on it all I was able to connect with my workout buddy again and have some good conversations. A good Saturday indeed!

Thank goodness for the weekend:

I am thankful for weekends now a days.  I am looking forward for this weekend so that i will begin my process of getting to the gym again.  I have not been able to get to the gym recently because of work and stuff going on at home.  My goal is to get stuff straightened out at home and then be able to help maintaining it on a weekly basis which i hope in turn will free up some time to get to the gym!

Almost the Weekend:

So I have been doing pretty good with my snacking...i still get cravings once and awhile...I have been doing really well with my breakfasts and lunch portions.  And i believe i have been doing good with my dinners.  The one thing that i have not been doing well is getting to the Gym consistently. Granted i have still been losing weight not getting there consistently but i know i could be having greater success if i would get there more often. Hopefully God helps keep me motivated and getting myself to the gym.

It's been a couple of days:

So it has been a couple of days...I actually just got back from a business trip late last night so i was not able to blog at all over the trip...I am hoping that my 3 day trip did not do to much damage to my routine.  But I will see tonight hopefully.  If i have the opportunity to go to the gym i will go...but i am not planning on it...since i have been away for a couple days all i really want to do is hang out with my Wife and Son...A workout can wait one more day.

Workout Thursday:

It is time to get a good sweat in tonight.  I am very hopeful i will get to the gym this evening and I am wondering if i will see any more weight come off in these last two days.  I am still feeling the high of my previous weight loss and i am hoping to ride it to even greater heights.  It actually feels good to have my pants be loose, but right now i am battling with buying more pants (smaller size) or waiting until i lose some more weight.

Got a surprise last night:

My last weigh in was a couple weeks ago...i have not weighed myself during the Christmas Holiday.  So I was a little concerned on what my weight would be...I had images in my head that I had ballooned to over 340 again  or worse 350...Thankfully neither of those was true.  The scale was actually quite nice to me, so nice that i double checked my weight on a different scale this morning just to be sure.  The scale read 332,  which means in December i lost a total of 8 pounds, which i feel is pretty good a holiday month.

In a little over 4 months i have lost a total of 35 pounds.  Which was approximately 9.53% of my total body weight otherwise known as 8.23 pounds per month so going by this math...in another 4 months i should be under 300 and within 8 months i should be around 280...which i would take for and end goal of 1 year.  Seeing this result right now has re-motivated me to get going to the gym and keep chugging along!

Gym Tonight:

I am gonna hit the gym tonight and see what damage the Holidays did to me...I am hoping that it is not to bad.  I am also going to try to stick to a new workout schedule...Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday morning.  My hope is to limit the amount of time i am away from home and the family.  This way i can get my work out in and not miss anything at home.

It's been awhile:

It has been awhile for me...I have not been blogging over the Christmas holiday. I know i need to get back on the wagon and get back to losing weight.  So today is back on the wagon day for me!  I haven't weighed myself in a while...heres to the hope that the number is not to bad.
